There's no public walkway across the Bay Bridge. However, when driving you can stop off at Treasure Island, which is between the two spans of the bridge for some great views of the city. For a walk with good views of the Bay and the Bay Bridge, you can't go wrong with the Embarcadero. You can walk along several of the piers on Embarcadero too, and get a pretty good view of downtown SF.

Hi, I did the same walk last Friday whilst I was in San Francisco for VMworld. Have you worked out how far it is? it is a very nice walk.
